Ukraine's Recovery After Chemical Disaster (Bella Di Fazio 8th)

Statistics have shown that it will take 3000 years for Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Pripyat, Ukraine to fully recover from a nuclear disaster from about 30 years ago. There has been some intense and irreversible damage done to the environment around that area. Because of the high amount of radiation, it is not being depopulated and will remain desolate for the following 3000 years.

This is what could have hypothetically happened to people if the Cold War were to fully go in to effect. However, the results would be much more disastrous, but this story shows how dangerous nuclear weapons can be. The nuclear explosion in Ukraine displaced thousands of people and turned it into a desolate wasteland. I think we need to be much more cautious of how we invent and store these dangerous weapons.

  1. The dangers of nuclear weapons are extremely scary. The thought of a nuclear war is even scarier. It is crazy to think about how large scale a war on North Korea or terrorism could get if nuclear weapons became involved.

  2. Matthew Homsher 9th- Nuclear power has become much safer since then, but Chernobyl was a terrible accident and hopefully nothing like it will ever occur again.
