Solar Impulse 2 Lands in California // Olivia Gillis P3

After a two-and-a-half day flight across the Pacific, an experimental place flying around the world without a drop of fuel landed in California. The plane was piloted by the Swiss explorer and psychiatrist, Bertrand Piccard. The plane took off from Hawaii on Thursday, resuming a journey that had stalled on the island of Oahu for about ten months. It took off around sunrise on Friday. On arrival into the skies above California, it flew holding patterns for multiple hours above the San Francisco Bay as celebration. Because the plane travels at about the same speed as a car, the Hawaii-California leg took just over 62 hours to complete. In theory, the plane now has the ability to fly for an unlimited period, with only the human factor limiting how long the plane could potentially stay in the air.
This invention is a huge breakthrough in technology, and transportation of course. If the weather is just right, the solar plane can fly for an endless amount of time. Although the unknowns regarding weather situations could be seen as a slight inconvenience, if a trip was planned just right, the flight could occur smoothly. After many months of planning and rebuilding, the plane is performing remarkably well and leaves everyone that sees it in awe of it's incredible abilities.
