All schools shut- Londyn Alexander Pd:flex

A Virginia school assigned homework over the Islamic religion and as a result schools all over the county closed as a "safety precaution." The homework infuriated many parents, who assumed it was an attempt in converting their children to the Islamic religion. Numerous parents called the school requesting for the teacher to be fired, however because she didn't make the worksheet and it was a standardized assignment nothing could be done. The county system claims they are removing the controversial assignment and replacing it with a non religious arabic calligraphy.


I feel as if the situation was slightly ridiculous. The parents over reacted to a homework assignment that was only meant to inform them of Islamic beliefs, so as young individuals they are more socially aware. I think this issue attest to America's growing case of  Islamophobia, which is understandable due to all that's occurred, but it's still wrong to me personally. There was no evidence of attempted conversion and I find it sad that the school system is actually prohibiting knowledge. I think it is extremely important that you learn about all world religions and cultures simply,because the shapes and effects the world we live in.
