Debate on E-Cigs - Isabella Montague 5th period

The FDA announced that they are requiring all e-cigarette companies to go through regulation process, and that process will cost so much that about 99% of the companies are expected to be unable to afford this and therefore will be out of business. They say that they do not want to promote companies that are bad for one's health and that are often used as a gateway to actual cigarettes. However, there are a group of scientists that are insisting for the FDA to reconsider this decision. They say that vaping is done in majority by people who are already or have been cigarette smokers. They say that vaping helps people quit smoking more harmful cigarettes. E-cigarettes are a good way to quit smoking, because they are 95% safer.

I think this is an interesting debate, because both sides have very good points. I think that even though e-cigs are harmful when used by non-smokers, they are important for people that are trying to quit and without that outlet quitters will probably have a much harder time with it. I think it is also interesting how far America has come in the history of tobacco, since the very beginning of tobacco (which happened to just about be the beginning of America) when John Rolfe saved Jamestown by introducing tobacco as a cash crop.
