Thousands Attend Rally for Chicago Teachers as Union Nears Contract-Natalie Newman

A rally was organized in Chicago recently to protest against the poor treatment schools have been receiving. Videos and photographs show the thousands of people wearing the signature red T-shirts of the Chicago Teachers Union. This rally was full of politicians, teachers, students and even activists who spoke about the need for better school conditions in the city. According to Lorretta Johnson, secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers, this rally has spoken out to the whole world. “What you’ve done is send a message across this country and we heard it loud and clear.”
Education is one of the most important aspects of the American culture, yet it has also been one of the most "in-jeopardy" aspects as well. Education is so important, but for some reason, is acted down upon. Budget cuts all throughout the nation have affected every single person, without a doubt. This rally held in Chicago is meaningful to all teachers and students everywhere. The need for better school conditions is called upon by everyone, everywhere. The strength of the Chicago Teachers Union has given hope to people all throughout America. The dedication to keep protesting for the good of education has touched many people to step up for the defense of education.

  3. I seriously thought that the rally was a great movement of civil justice. The teachers need to be looked at as a commodity because the are they vuild the nation with doctors, lawyers, artist etc. They give a child a chance to drem in a class roomm.

  5. I personally agree strongly with that rally to get people aware of the bad conditions our school districts are in today. Even though we have all these extreme budget cuts lately, I feel like there would be a way to keep the schools as organized, and safe as they are now with just less money.

  6. The strike was suspended today! Their original causes were interesting, and the relationship between those and how the newly-appointed superintendent Mr. Miles has been fascinating to watch.
