Chicago Teachers on Strike

In this CNN report, it tells about 26,000 teachers and staff from the Chicago school districts demanding "higher pay, better job security and changes to a new evaluation system." Having this strike at the time that they did was also well planned since they had it right around the time that the government makes note of all the jobs and newly hired employees. Last month's report showed a low number which won't help Obama too much having these low job numbers and wanting to be re-elected. However, economists aren't thinking too much of the strike since they believe it will be over soon and most of these teachers won't be counted in the unemployment tally.

Lately, hearing about all the problems in DISD I don't really think about the other school districts that could be having the same or even worse problems. Chicago seems to be having almost the same issues; no pay increase, poor evaluations. The Chicago teachers are pretty brave for doing this even if it doesn't impact anything on paper. Those teachers still spoke up about their problems hoping to change someone's mind and took the consequences(no pay while they were out of work)

  1. This strike shouldn't be ignored by economists because this is a growing problem. Teachers deserve much better than what they are receiving.

  2. you have to also think about the teachers who actually teach and the ones who don't. because i have friends from all over the city and they say they "chill" in class and do "nohing" and the teacher gets paid and still wants to complain about it.
