New drivers license and ID law by jonathan landeros

Early this year a law was passed that Texans who want to get a renewed drivers license or an ID have to go through a different process to get it. Citizens have to take a birth certificate or passport to the DPS for the next time they renew the license or state ID. Legal residents for both temporary and permanent need prove that they are legal and that way the department can come to a conclusion on the expiration date. After the law was passed the state got sued by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund because the rule had no prior approval from the state Legislature.

My opinion is that this is really dumb to just pass a law without a prior approval from the state but then again the law affects many people wether they are immigrants or legal citizens.

  1. I think it's a great idea because it will show legitimacy and keep the streets safer. I think it's a good background check!
