Trump Says He Will Sign Free Speech Order for College Campuses

Trump decided on Saturday that he made a plan to issue an executive order to ensure free speech for students of all beliefs on college campuses nationwide at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside of Washington. He stated that they will put their federal aid at risk if they do not respect and protect the viewpoints of all students. There is no clear date to when this order is to be signed. This plan was made by Trump to ensure that conservatives get just as much of a voice as liberals on campuses where they are outnumbered, and vice versa. This problem arose after conservative students at Berkley were harassed for delivering speeches and speaking out on their beliefs. Reporters are unsure as for how much this will actually affect the aid that colleges get if they refuse to make an effort to stop this harassment, or if Trump has much say in federal aid.

I think Trump is actually doing a very good thing for students if this order is issued. It's very important in today's world to look at other people's views and give everyone an equal chance of speaking their beliefs. In a time where we can trap ourselves in a bubble to where we only see and hear similar views to ours, it can be hard to let differing point of views into our space. This reminds me of the time period of World War 1 where the Espionage and Sedition acts were in place. The U.S. surrounded the people with only pro-war viewpoints and the idea of free speech was unintentionally pushed away at some times. Although the issues now being debated are not similar to that time period, the same concept of questioning who really has free speech is coming back into the lives in America.
