"How Admissions Really Work: If The College Admissions Scandal Shocked You, Read This"
Clare Lombardo's article on college admissions, published online by NPR, draws back the curtains on the real workings of the college admissions, and how they are biased to allow people with higher socioeconomic status, more previous educational opportunity, and lighter skin. In her article, Lombardo cited several statistics researched from colleges and other national sources; for example, schools educating primarily African American and low-income get $23 billion less of federal funding. This is evidence that there is still racial segregation in education.
Not only is there racial segregation in education, but in so many other areas of society. There is political bias - we had our first non-white president only ten years ago. Almost every other week, there is a coloured person called out for going about their daily business like every other person. Racial bias is so incredibly present, and while the nation has moved leaps and bounds from slavery and unjust imprisonment, and it progressed steadily throughout the civil rights era, there are many changes that still need to be made for all men to be equal.
