A little over a year ago, tragedy struck a high school in Parkland, Florida. A gunman killed 17 people that was one of a multitude of shootings that has happened at schools across American since Columbine, Colorado. But it appears the ripple effect of the violence does not stop on the day of the shooting. This week there have been two apparent suicides from students trying to live with the memories of that day in Florida. On March 17th a former cheerleader, now 19, took her own life not able to live with the post traumatic stress of her memories. And only 6 days later another student, who was not named, also ended their life by suicide. As a society, are we asking too much of our children to bear? It seems after ever incident, there is an outcry. But only for a minute. These young lives have to witness and live with the burden. And for some that burden is too great. When will our country wake up to the fact that gun laws have to be changed?

Emma Burkey: We can only imagine what the survivors are goin through, we would never want to be in that situation. That being said, we must help them as much as possible, individually and with laws.
ReplyDeleteThis is very heartbreaking, I can only hope there will be no more suicides regarding the shooting but chances are very slim.
