New Zealand 'gun laws will change' after mass shooting at mosques, prime minister says- by Dillon Quicksall

In New Zealand, nearly 49 worshipers of the Islamic Faith were ruthlessly gunned down at two mosques in the city of Cristchurch. The way this occurrence has affected not only the victims and the families of the victims, but the mental state of New Zealand as a whole has been unquestionably tremendous and harmful. However, there is the potential for good to come from this. The prime minister of New Zealand has promised to reform the gun laws in the country, which he says he will implement as a response to what is believed to be a clearly flawed system in which one could legally purchase the guns that the gunman purchased.
This is particularly shocking when you compare the Australian response to the responses that have been had in the United States. After every mass shooting, as common as they've become, talk about gun laws will surface and then dissipate, as we appear to have become numb to them. What's even more frightening is how vastly U.S. mass shooting statistics outweigh this one incident, and how much more mildly we reacted to them. If we continue to deny that gun violence is caused by guns and wrap our political beliefs in superficial political rhetoric and logically invalid appeals to tradition in the name of the second amendment rather than moving forward with rational thinking and reform, this won't end. New Zealand was smart enough to see it, and I hope we are as well.
