This article talks about a father who helped prevent mass shootings after his daughter was killed in the Sandy Hook massacre has passed away due to suicide. He was a neuroscientist who was found in his office building Monday morning, but the police will not tell the method or any details of his death. There have also been other suicides in Florida ,including Sydney Aiello who survived the attack on Valentine's Day 2018 that killed 17 people. She suffered from PTSD and survivor's guilt after the tragic event.
These events have reminded me of the increased suicide rate during the Great Depression. The suicide rate has went up 30% in many states, which truly saddens me. I know that this could be hard to talk about, but there must be more conversations about suicide in order to help prevent it.
