Summary: James Gunn, the writer and director for Guardians of the Galaxy, was fired around last July for his old controversial twitter jokes. This angered fans, and put Gaurdians of the Galaxy 3 on a indefinite hiatus. All of the cast also had his back during this, and threatened to quit if hey didn’t rehire him. Still, Disney stood firm on their decision. Finally, this past week, Disney rehired Gunn. During this “break” however, Gunn recently signed on with Marvels competitor, DC, to write and direct the reboot of Suicide Squad. Guardians 3 will be produced after his new movie.
Analysis: The reason why Disney fires Gunn was probably due to the fact that they were trying to acquire Fox at the time and didn’t want any controversy affecting that. It was pretty clear that they would rehire him because fans would protest the movie and their actors were going to quit. I’m glad they finally rehired him, and I’m eager to watch his new Suicide Squad movie. I can relate this to U.S history because in past years, people have dug up past tweets/ things celebrities have said that were controversial like with Kevin Hart and Shane Dawson.
