China bans 23 million from traveling as part of citizen report card system- Yesenia Ramirez Monroy

Recently China has blocked millions of  travelers from buying a train or plane ticket due to the controversy of  the "social credit" system, which has drawn the ire of privacy advocates who fear the surveillance-based system. It is known that about 17.5 million times flights were banned and many citizens were put on blacklist. The social credit system is being built and now exists more as a patchwork of local and regional systems. When Chinese citizens commit a range of offenses such as  not paying taxes, jaywalking, smoking on a train, walking their dogs without a leash or taking drugs it is then placed on their record. This the creates issues when they try applying for a mortgage or a credit card because the Chinese government checks all their information including their personal life. This is causing people to fear the system and could lead to a crackdown on who tries to challenge China's government.
This article was written by Christopher Carbone with the purpose of informing Chinese citizens primarily who might be affected by this right know. This is also written with the purpose of informing the world because if not taken into consideration it could lead to other issues. When reading this article i see how the government is invading peoples privacy and making some offenses unnecessary. For example, jaywalking or walking a dog without a leash, which is not safe but are things that people still do everyday. This relates to us history  because it's somewhat similar to The Social Security Act by President Roosevelt on August 14, 1935. It was meant to be a social insurance program designed to pay retired workers age 65 or older. This relates to the issue that China has with the Social Credit which is intended to standardize the assessment of citizens' and businesses' economic and social reputation/credit by 2020.
