HIV-positive man in U.K. is 2nd known adult worldwide to be cleared of the AIDS virus
By Reuters
An HIV-positive man in Britain has become the second known adult worldwide to be cleared of the AIDS virus almost three years after receiving bone marrow stem cells from a donor with a rare genetic mutation that resists HIV infection. The case is proof of the concept that scientists will one day be able to end AIDS, the doctors said but does not mean a cure for HIV has been found. Doctors said that the man is functionally cured but it's still too early to tell if he is fully cured.
This is huge! HIV and AIDS have killed over 37 million people since the '80s and if scientists can find a cure that would be groundbreaking. I hope that more tests can be done soon so that more people can be treated.
