Marissa Rubio: Nightmare of Sexual Violence on the Border

Immigrants crossing the US boarder in hopes of safety, have been been subjected hundreds of cases of sexual assault in women and children . Though the #MeToo movement is taking actions to prevent sexual assault world wide, the majority of cases on the border are unreported and unprosecuted. Court records in the South have found over 100 documented cases of sexual assault. Trump himself has stated than one in three of the women who make the journey to the boarder are assaulted.  The majority of the violence occurs after they have reached the United States not by smugglers but by Border Control and Customs. Experts say that the current number is most likely even larger due to the fear many immigrants have of reporting assault.

The fact that those who seek sanction in the United States have been subjected to more violence is unacceptable. Immigrants are being put in positions where their human rights are being violated.
