Council members have officially voted and decided to remove the Confederate statues located in Dallas. There are mixed opinions from fellow city members from seeing this as a step forward to thinking we are trying to change history. Some see this as a good way to spend the tax-payers’ dollars because we are taking something down with such a negative and racist connection, while others believe we are making an effort to re-write the past, something we can never change. People also complain about the cost of removal, around $1 million, since we always need money for other necessities such as pot holes, police officers, firefighters, homeless, and the hungry.
This article was published by The Dallas Morning News yesterday, March 2 which were actually letters to the editors from the people of Dallas. These thoughts were from the actual voices of Dallas, and it shows a true representation of views from citizens. The audience of this article is the people of Dallas to inform others of the issues in our community. There are many points of view expressed in this article, so people are able to read the different sides to this argument and develop their opinion. This is connected to our past during civil war times when the Union fought the Confederate against slavery along with other issues as well in the Civil War.
