Isadora Lilly- Green New Deal’s Ocasio-Cortez mocks claims of her hypocrisy

This morning, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York mocked claims of her hypocrisy regarding the Green New Deal recently introduced by herself and Democrats. The Green New Deal resolution mainly aims to combat climate change and create thousands of jobs in renewable energy, as well as “achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions” within ten years.

So when the New York Post claimed that Ocasio-Cortez was a hypocrite because she continued to travel in cars, Ocasio-Cortez clapped back to ridicule the paper, saying: “The Post put the fact that I get into cars (while proposing a plan to invest in better car technology) on their front page 😂. Pack it up folks, the Pulitzer’s been decided. No one can rival this kind of hard-hitting journalism.”

I would say that this reminds me of FDR’s New Deal and most famous opponent, Huey Long. Huey Long criticized FDR for not doing enough for the poor, similarly to the New York Post which criticized Ocasio-Cortez of not doing enough in support of climate change. This is a reminder that there will always be those with contradictory opinions, no matter how much aid one gives. However, it is also important to remember that if you have a contradictory opinion to such a crucial topic that you should propose your own solution to solving the problem, as Huey Long did with his idea of “Share Our Wealth”.
