Rachel DuBard- For kids, ‘no question’ that current events-provoked anxiety is on the rise

After the 2016 election, 9th grader Eve Skilton-Sylvester developed anxiety after shootings and talk of building a wall. She felt as if there was no point in living because there would be more school shootings. Eve is now a sophomore at 16 and got the help she needed. Ever since the discovery of Eve's anxiety, educators and psychologists have found that there have been more reactions like hers. In recent studies, it has been found that loads of teens say they feel stressed out all the time. Significant stressors were sexual harassment and gun violence. Anxiety diagnosis' have been increasing, especially in teens, for a long time now. With smart phones constantly notifying about the tragedies in the news, we're always reminded whats happening which makes us thin abou what could happen next. Certain students a part of the LGBTQ community, with immigrant parents. are children of color feel especially vulnerable and ever since the 2016 election many hate crimes in school have increased.

I am not able to think about how this ties to history but this article has left a few questions in my mind. I wonder if people formed anxiety with past presidents before technology, but it just wasn't as much of a recognized topic. Is there any way we can figure out if this true?
