2-More states move to eliminate ‘tampon tax’ - The Washington Post

Five states which are moving toward getting rid of the “tampon tax” are Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin, while only fourteen already do not tax female hygienic products (five of which don’t have sales tax whatsoever). States like California are reluctant to give up such a large-producing revenue. States have not been unafraid to welcome what is called a “pink tax”, which refers to an extra upcharge on products aimed at women (over 800 products with gendered pricing discrepancies were found in a New York study alone).

In the Women’s Rights movement of the 60s and 70s, the right for abortion was fought and some minimal legislative movement was made, while today, we still struggle overcharging women on not only their needs (hygienic products), but on products which target the female audience. Period products are not bought for recreational use and shouldn’t be charged as though they were. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that women have to pay any more than they have to for basic health ritual/something that is expected by everyone.
