Black students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School want to be heard - Chloe Walker

 African-American students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School say their voices have been ignored by the media aftermath of a deadly school shooting. "I would say that our voices were not intentionally excluded, but they were not intentionally included," said Kai Koerber. The students say that issues such as gun violence have been protested since 2012, during the start of the Black Lives Matter Movement, and after the death of Trayvon Martin. They feel as if the media doesn't draw enough attention towards the voices of minorities.

This effects my understanding of the article because I know what the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school are protesting about. This article was created to inform us about how the minorities at the school feel as if their voices had not been heard. Which also addresses the awareness of bring the media towards more voices of minorities, one of the main reasons why this article is important. This article can reflect the times during the Civil Rights Movement where African American voices were silenced when they protested their rights.
