An article from website Everyday Health questions whether flavored milk is too sugary to be served at schools. The article expresses worry that getting rid of milk at school will mean kids aren't getting a vital source of calcium necessary to their growing bodies. The article concludes with support for flavored milk, but only at home, not served in schools. This is so parents can make a healthier version of chocolate milk, monitoring how much sugar goes into the product.
I disagree wholeheartedly with this article. The very premise of a website titled "Everyday Health" supporting human consumption of dairy, even if it's not at school, is pretty disturbing. Here's why.
But first, I have some questions for you.
Is rape okay? Does anyone, or any living, feeling creature deserve rape? How about hooking a living being up to a machine for hours a day, so they cannot move or fulfill any purpose in life? Is kidnapping okay? What about sending those same babies to be tortured and killed?
My guess is you answered no, that's not okay, and at the very least it's sickening to you. But if you or your family has ever bought cow's milk, that is what you are paying for and supporting.
Cows, the gentle and intelligent beings they are, must be pregnant to produce milk, just like humans. And because natural reproduction between a male and female is inefficient for dairy companies, employees artificially inseminate female cows against their will (aka rape them). Once the mother goes into labor, employees forcefully help her deliver and take the calf from the mother, never to be seen again, because the dairy industry views babies as disposable. (Hint: this is where veal comes from).
On top of it all, the milk meant for the baby calf is pumped from the utters of the mother on machines that often cause infection in the cow's mammary glands. This means the milk you drink has at least a teaspoon of pus in every glass. And you may be thinking, "but isn't milk pasteurized?" and yes, it is, but since pasteurization is a sanitation process, it only cleans the pus. Which means it doesn't take the pus out. My point is, congrats, you're drinking pus, rape, and are supporting kidnapping all in one sip.
So maybe you don't really care about what happens to a billions of innocent cows. What about what milk does to YOU? (I'm getting there, promise). Back to how I'm disappointed in everydayhealth.com, milk is not good for you or your bones, and it's not the sugary chocolate or strawberry flavoring that's to blame. Although, those things definitely don't make milk any healthier by any means, that's for sure.
We're all probably told as kids that drinking milk makes for strong bones, but it ironically does the exact opposite. The only milk humans really need is from their own mother (shocker) up to two years after birth. Milk, like all animal protein, is acidic. In order to counteract this, the human body neutralizes the pH with calcium, a base, that is drawn out of our bones. Since this calcium can't be used again, it is excreted as urine. But what about the calcium from the milk? It can't be processed by the human body, and therefore serves no purpose other than depleting the human body of calcium and satisfying a craving (mmm, pus).
So that's why I'm disappointed in this article, being a website about health, because it's this same ignorance that causes osteoporosis, breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, ...the list goes on... and more importantly the enslavement of mama cows. :(
So why does it keep happening? BECAUSE YOU AND I KEEP PAYING FOR IT. We are not baby calves!! So why are we stealing their milk and sending them to die, when it's not even good for us in the first place?? It's madness. Just like slavery, it only works because people buy the product. And now that slavery (the kind pre-13th Amendment) is over and everyone in their right mind despises it, it's time we challenge a new form of slavery: factory farming.
If you still crave milk, yogurt, cheese or ice cream, try out some non-dairy options! There are 7 different kinds of dairy free, animal product free kinds of milk! Also, if you read this whole thing, thanks & good job. ;)

Wow, this post is very enlightening. This is horrible, it's such a shame that this is how it actually is. You really make some riveting points. I'm actually considering going vegan after this whoa.
