This article discusses the Democratic Debate. It highlights the clash between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Part of the article discusses gun control. Sanders was attacked for his support of gun ownership by Clinton, who pointed out that Vermont (where Sanders is from) has almost 50% of households owning a gun or weapon. Sanders went back with saying that he does not gain that much support from gun companies and he fully supports Obama's plea for increased background checks on owners of guns.
This is similar to the addition of the 2nd amendment to the Constitution. Although the amendments was added at the same time as the other 9 amendments in the Bill of Rights, the addition of the amendments as a whole was debated highly by the Federalists and Antifederalists. The Federalists wanted the constitution to offer a lot of government control, as the Articles of Confederation (minimum government control) had proved to be disastrous. Meanwhile, the Antifederalists wanted the addition of the Bill of Rights to protect the rights of the people that the country had fought so hard for in the first place. While the terms of the debates are not entirely the same, the concept of fighting for which side had the better interpretation of protecting the rights of the people is the same.

The dem-debate was very interesting to watch, great analysis!
ReplyDeleteI believe that Obama's proposed laws should be carried out. No gun owner should be worried about a tighter background check, if they will be safer with one and they would still be able to keep their guns!
