Zika Virus in the US. By: Emma Wall

https://www.yahoo.com/travel/is-this-virus-the-new-mosquito-borne-disease-224720174.html

The article above discusses the first U.S. case of Zika.  Zia is a deadly virus that is carried in mosquitos.  It is said that pregnant women should be extremely cautious because if they are infected the fetus will be as well.  The case found in Hawaii was one of a baby who was born with "Zika-related microcephaly."  They believe that the mother was infected when she was in Brazil during her pregnancy.

It is very scary to know that they don't have a cure for this disease, yet.  Viruses spread so quickly, but I am hoping this one doesn't because when, for example, the swine flu spread it was deadly.  It is also things like this that can affect a lot of things.  I recall that schools closed due to the swine flu.  I also think it is very odd because in the article it discussed how this virus was once very rare, but it is now rapidly spreading.

  1. It is scary to think of the impact of growing diseases. However, we are lucky that technology allows it to not get as bad on a mass destruction level, as did the Black Plague and others of similar nature.

  2. The fact that this virus is rare but is starting to spread really fast is what's scary. This could mean that we haven't even got a cure and probably aren't even close to having one due to it's uncommonness.
