"Lottery winner: Why wouldn't we go back to work?" -Leah Messinger (period1)

This past week the largest power ball lottery was won by John and Lisa Robinson from Tennessee. The couple discusses their plans with their winnings and how they will adjust to life afterwards. They mention that they will, in fact, go back to work. While this may seem strange to some people, they admit that they wouldn't know what to do with themselves. Working is all they've ever known and they are going to try and return back to as normal of a life as possible. Obviously, they say that they will give a large amount to their children and will be able to live knowing that they will always be financially secure. However, life becomes more complicated than before for them with all of this money. Lisa mentions that as soon as they won, they went online and followed all of the necessary steps to take after winning this large amount of money, but they are not keeping their winnings a huge secret.
This reminds me of the "rags to riches" lifestyle of the Gilded age. Although the lottery is an extreme case, it will change their lives and their children's lives for as long as they live. The Industrial Revolution opened up doors for many people and allowed them to support their families. I personally believe that it is good that they are trying to keep as normal of a life as possible in order to stay true to themselves and stay humble. After taking care of their family and some luxury items they should donate the money to charity because all of the extra money must be overwhelming.

I'm very happy for them, and I hope that the "Gospel of Wealth" Its an actual thing in the 21st century rather than the Guilded Age's 'steal in private, give in public.' Maybe they will donate. Hopefully.

I think their purpose of going back to work is their need for a daily routine. If they were to abandon their careers they might be sitting around all day not knowing what to do with their time. I'm glad that the large lottery win went to hard working individuals.

  3. I think that's a great to go back to work. People who gain that kind of money that fast can get to their heads. Going back to work can get their mind off the money.

  4. Matthew Homsher 9th- It's a good idea to continue to work because most lottery winners get their money and waste it all. If you convince yourself that you still have to work for a living, then you can manage the money more reasonably, like you would a large bonus.

  8. I agree completely Leah! It's cool how even though their success, they aren't letting it get to their head or life and change the lifestyle or "work style."
