summery: Four teens pointed a gun at a father and daughter in a Brooklyn playground, forcing the father to leave the area so they could rape his daughter. The father ran into a convenient store to beg for help and for them to call the police, but they didn't listen and asked him to leave, because he appeared drunk and they couldn't understand what he was saying. Meanwhile, the girl at the park screamed for help, but nobody would. After the incident, the girl was mildly injured and she was taken to a hospital. Two of the attackers turned themselves in, and the other two were arrested.
Analysis: This situation is very unfortunate, and the sad part of it, is that it happens more often than it appears. In crowded areas such as Brooklyn, New York, there seems to be a common theme in dehumanization of societies. People are so absorbed in themselves and do not want to get involved in things that do not pertain to them. But the simple truth is, is they pertain to everyone, because if the issue is not addressed, then they will continue to happen, and could happen to the people ignoring the fact. This is similar to the gilded age because of the dehumanization in factory working. People didn't care that workers had to suffer in harmful conditions, and nobody would do anything because of the overly crowded population and self interest. We must move away from dehumanization, and work to help people, instead of ignoring issues.
