Claudia Anthony "When Teamwork Doesn’t Work for Women"

Economics has always been a male-dominated profession, and research as to why this is the case has suggested that the problem is the failure to give women the credit they deserve for work done with men. This may be the explanation to why women have trouble getting ahead in most professions that require collaborative work. Heather Sarsons, who is currently completing her dissertation at Harvard, has done her own research and discovered that female economists who have worked alone have had as much career success as men, while women who collaborate with men are twice as likely to not to be recognized for their work. This is an issue because the majority of economic research is done with a co-author.

It is very frustrating that women are not getting their hard work acknowledged, and that this has been going on for basically all of history. Times have changed and women have achieved so many great things in the past 100 years, people need to realize that women deserve their fair share of credit for the work they do. One historical example of this is Rosalind Franklin's discovery of the DNA double helix, but Watson and Crick are credited for making that discovery.

  1. Kenley Turner- Women cant get ahead in most professions, because they don't receive respect from male co-workers. Regardless of her performance, she is seen as an object.

  2. It's silly that women aren't recognized for the work they do. Just because they are "co-authors" doesn't mean they shouldn't get credit. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

Women's rights have been a huge deal for so long and it's preposterous that today women are still not treated with the respect that men receive, and the credit we deserve.
