Summary: An Alabama cop left Patel(57 year old Indian man) partially paralyzed. The policeman received a call saying there was a suspicious man lurking around the neighborhood. When they showed up they saw Patel walking around. These police tried to get information out of him but this was Patel's second time in America and didn't know much English. There was very little communication and Patel ended up getting tackled to the ground, leaving him partially paralyzed. When this case was brought to a judge, he dismissed it only saying that Parker(the policeman) had violated his civil rights. In the article it doesn't say if he even got punishment for that.
Analysis: See this was what our founding fathers wanted to avoid, violation of rights. This is also why some cops are getting away with many things and ruining the good cops's reputation and the trust of the people. This also relates to the gilded age when there was a lot of corruption. For example when Grant was president and people were robbing him right under his nose, at least then they were punished for their crimes. Now things like this just get completely ignored and the people are troubled because the people who are supposed to protect them aren't.

ReplyDeleteThis is a total violation of rights.
This is so unfair. Parker deserves punishment for what he did to Patel. Patel did not deserve this at all.
