Earlier today, a police officer in Danville, Ohio was found dead behind a municipal building after being shot to death by a 32 year old drug addict. The man is now in custody, he had been in and out of jail for several years for drug charges, assault charges, and burglary charges. The man's family claimed the entire situation may have been avoided if he had still been in prison, rather than being released soon after his sentences.
This is one example of where our justice system needs to be improved, people are being thrown in prison for very long periods of time all over the country for nonviolent offenses that, if anything, should be nothing more than misdemeanors resulting in citations, while violent abusers and real criminals are being let out after serving a mandatory minimum sentence. Things need to change in that regard, things like this would most likely not be happening.
