Americans in Iran prisoner swap arrive in Germany by Shara Jeyarajah p.8

Earlier, three Americans had just arrived in Germany after being imprisonrd in Iran. One prisoner was a Christian pastor, another a Washington Post journalist, and the last was a war veteran. Another prisoner made the decision not to leave Iran. The journalist and his wife had been taken a year ago, according to the Washington Post's foreign editor. When asked how he was doing, the journalist responded "I'm a hell of a lot better than I was 48 hours ago." The pastor's wife hoped to talk to her husband, but was called by President Obama. The U.S. also dropped charges against several Iranians that were being detained for an unlikely extradition to the U.S. Another man was lost in Iran, but Iranians deny that he was imprisoned. The U.S. continue to work on this case.
This is an amazing story. I can't imagine what life must have been like in an Iranian prison, and I hope their emotional and physical scars are not to deep.
This connects to MLK because Americans were targeted because of their race, religion, and nationality. I believe that the prisoner who chose to stay behind is a pioneer like King, because rather than going to a comfortable environment, they are willing to risk their lives to change something oppressive and horrible.

  1. I agree, it's very brave that one man chose to stay in Iran after everything that happened.
