Police brutality has recently been a very prevalent offense that sadly is starting to become more and more common. The victim that was shot was at a recreation center near his home when 2 police officers were called to the scene when it was reported that Tamir Rice was waving a gun and pointing it at people. they arrived at the scene and when they got near Rice they claim he picked up and object and stuck it in his waistband. then when the officers told him as loudly as they could to put his hands up, he reached for what was in his waistband and it appeared like he was getting ready to shoot. the officer shot twice since he felt that both his and his partner's life were in danger.
the case has been open for investigation for about a year now and is now being prepared to be heard in court by the grand jury. we cant be sure if the officers were telling the truth since there has been a long history of police forces abusing their power. several witnesses claim that Tamir Rice was in fact acting suspicious and did threaten the locals at the park. when authorities spoke to his mother, they asked her if she thought it was reasonable that 2 police officers parked their car and ran across the grass only for the sole reason to shoot Rice, since in fact they were parked far away and would have had to voluntarily walk a long distance just to shoot a random male for no reason. she agreed that it didn't sound reasonable but prays and hopes that the grand jury will come to the right decision and find justice for her son. the officers claim that they feared for their life since a suspicious, 185 pound 18 year old was appearing to draw a gun. i agree that in that case, i myself would have feared what was about to happen. we can't be sure that their story is completely true, but also we cant always assume that when a non-cocassian man dies it always pinned on racial injustice. in history racial injustice has been an issue and especially in the 50's and 60's when several movements stood up for the issue, most famously the civil rights movement. as i said before police brutality has been common for a while and we have seen many cases in the past and i just hope that someday we can put an end to it.

Until we see footage via body cam eye witness cell phone video or dash cam we can't place judgement the initial story might put the cops in the right but it wouldn't be the first time a cop lied about the killing of a black man. (Luis Ceja)
