Hack a Hairdryer // Kai Jones 1st period

In this article the 'Hack a Hairdryer' campaign launched by the company IBM in the form of a video which was posted on YouTube in October but it is just now gaining attention.
IBM is a large american computing company. Their campaign has started to pick up negative opinions. it was a failed attempt at getting girls interested in science and coding. Many female scientists have deemed it as sexist and patronizing.

I think what IBM was trying to do was in the right place. They wanted to create some sort of initiative to get young women interested in science and engineering programs. However, hacking hairdryers is not the way to go about it. Women are still scrutinized today for pursuing science. For years men have dominated the science field. Until recent years women haven't had the opportunity that men have to go into the scientific field. Now women are having a greater impact on the scientific community in their discoveries and inventions that go way beyond hairdryers.

  1. I agree. Their heart was in the right place, maybe not the right to do it though!
