Civil unrest, nicknamed the "Venezuelan Spring", has recently broken out against the government in Venezuela. These protests and riots were caused by a recent rise in inflation and violence in the country, as well as most citizens' lack of access to necessities and basic supplies. Protestors blame these issues on the government. Their protests are met aggressively by president Nicolas Maduro, but this only serves to further the unrest and emphasize the general dissatisfaction with the government.
Carlos Becerra documents these protests in a series of thought provoking photographs.
In my opinion, this documentation is vital in regards to the movement because it raises awareness of these issues to countries such as our own, and humanizes the efforts of the rioters.
