An exchange student from the Rupublic of Congo, Levi Thamba Pongi died last month in a fall from a motel balcony. The autopsy report revealed that Pongi's death was partly because of marijuana intoxication. He received a marijuana cookie from a friend. Colorado law prohibits recreational use of marijuana for people under the age of 21, but authorities believe Pongi's friend was above the required age. Pongi was 19.
Wow that's pretty scary. I've heard of marijuana cookies and know of some people who eat them. The next time I hear of them in conversation, I'll be sure to raise awareness of the potential danger they can cause. It's sad that Pongi came to America seeking better educational opportunities, but instead died here from drug use. We don't want our country to get a bad rep for these sort of things. I hope Pongi's family doesn't think of the USA as a disgrace because of his death.
If this isn't a good reason to not do drugs, then I doubt there is one. It's very sad that he passed away, but he should not have eaten it in the first place. Peer pressure might have played a role in this, and he probably took it to seem "cool" to his older friend.
