Teen killed at Connecticut school; classmate arrested - Alix Kast

A 16-year old girl was killed by a classmate at Milford, Connecticut. She was attacked in a hallway at Jonathan Law High School around 7 a.m. on Friday. There were rumors that a boy was angry at Maren Sanchez (the victim) because she had declined to go to prom with him. The prom was scheduled for Friday but was rescheduled.  She had severe injuries around her neck, but police would not release whether a weapon had been used.  The attacker, who was also 16, was taken into custody. He did not resist police, and is not being named since he is a juvenile (under 18). Authorities called it an "isolated incident" and decided that there was not any danger to other students at the school. However, the school was closed due to it being an active crime scene. Counseling services will be available to students. Milford is about 22 miles away from Newton Connecticut, where the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings occurred.

The fact that she was killed at school is really freaky. School is supposed to be a safe place. Even if there are bullies, you rarely ever hear about someone actually being killed. Plus, people always assume that murders will happen at night when it is dark, but this happened in the middle of the morning. There are absolutely no good reasons for murder, but I really hope that it wasn't because she told the boy she wouldn't go to prom with him. Because, seriously, that's absurd. People typically think that kids who get killed are involved in gangs and substance abuse, but I don't think that was the case here. It's possible that her killer was using some kind of substance or was mentally insane.
