"A Year Later, Boston Marathon Runners 'Take Back That Finish Line' " - Camille Farrar

Although the winner of the women’s division of the Boston Marathon, Rita Jeptoo, set a record time most of the focus was not on how fast people ran. Most people were focusing on the triumph of those who were running last year during the bombing and have been able to come back and race again. 3 people were killed in the bombing last year and over 260 were injured. Many people had to undergo amputations because of the injuries they got in the race. Those who could, including Lee Ann Yanni, came back to finish the race they started last year. Yanni ran despite the fact that she was unable to walk for five and a half weeks after the bombing.
It is absolutely incredible that so many of the survivors from last year came back to run once again. If I were in a similar situation, I might be too scared to return to the same place for the same event after being injured there. I was very glad to hear that extra safety measures were put in place to make sure nothing like the bombing of last year happened. Backpacks and containers with more than one liter of liquid were both prohibited in order to keep everyone safe for the marathon. The determination of those who returned after obtaining their injuries is completely inspiring.
