"Man gets 18 months in jail for urinating on Alamo" Tyra Harris, 5th period

Daniel Athens was sentenced to 18 months in a state jail facility on Monday for urinating on the historic Texas Alamo in April 2012. The was charged and convicted of criminal mischief, hwich is normally punishable by up to 2 years in jail. He entered a guilty plea and was ordered to pay a $4, 000 restitution fee to cover the damage done to the Alamo.

While I don't agree with Athen's gross decision to urinate on a landmark historical site, I do believe his sentence was excessive.  Some identity thieves, drug abusers, and burglars receive lower sentences that 18 months. 16 year old Ethan Couch, who made national headlines this year for killing 4 people while driving drunk received NO JAIL TIME,  rather only 10 years of probation. However, a guy relives himself in public and gets a year and a half in jail?! That's becoming the new definition of justice in our country. What's really important, America?
