Thirty-nine year old Jose Luis Villegas Jr. was executed in a  Hutsville, TX prison via lethal injection on today. In 2001, Villegas was convicted of brutally stabbing to death his girlfriend, Erida Perez Salazar, her son and her mother after consuming about $200 worth of cocaine. He then left the house to buy more cocaine with the intent to return to the house commit suicide via overdose. However, he was greeted by the authorities at the residence, led them on a high speed  chase and tried to flee on foot. He was eventually caught and arrested.

Texas has had over one third of the nations executions since 1976. I don't necessarily consider that to be a bad thing as I believe in swift justice. Some people don't believe in the "eye for an eye" law system, but I personally feel that it prevents others from committing such horrid crimes. Capital punishment is often labeled as "hypocritical". However, no one can come up with a better way to discipline guilty criminals. Justice was served to the Perez family, but I wish the murders would not have happened.

  1. The eye for an eye system won't do good for those who don't care what their actions lead to. Nor will it do good for psychopaths that can work their way around the system.
