Message in a bottle tossed off Calif. pier found in Guam- Natalie H. - Class 2

In 2010, a Utah woman who had brain cancer tossed a message in a bottle of the California coast. Recently, it has been found by a group of high school students on the beaches of Guam. This article was featured 8 hours ago today, posted by Yahoo! User Dylan Stableford.

Three years ago, Brittanie Penrose was on a date with her current boyfriend Aaron Lanari, who on the spot thought it would be good to send a message out to sea. Penrose wrote about herself dealing with cancer and said that if the note was ever found, to “find her on Facebook.” (Really does bring people together, folks.) Her boyfriend wrote original song lyrics, “When intelligence is ignorant and empathy is absent, death and hate are present when joy and love are abstract." And last Thursday, Javier Sanchez (14) found the note 6,200 miles away. With a teacher and a group of students, they posted an online video reading the note, which was eventually discovered by Penrose herself.

It was exciting for Penrose and Lanari to talk back and forth with the class. She received words of encouragement from these students, despite that she was able to fight off her brain cancer long ago. Her boyfriend just comments, “I hope they don't prosecute us for littering.”
It was really enlightening to read this article. I hope that many other people have their moment to shine, and that those with an ongoing struggle can fight it out like Brittanie Penrose did.
