Dad of 9-year-old plane stowaway: 'He's got a behavioral problem'

Sometime last week a nine year old boy told his parents he was taking out the trash but actually took the light rail from his Minneapolis neighborhood to the local airport. From there, he slipped through security and boarded a plane to Las Vegas- all without a ticket. The airline was reviewing security footage and saw the boy slipping past a distracted employee. While he was on the plane, the flight attendants were suspicious of the boy and called child services after they had landed. Authorities now are questioning his home situation, and apparently this isn't something new. The boy was already arrested two weeks ago for allegedly stealing a car and arrested for sneaking into an amusement park by pretending to blend in with a large family. Authorities question his home life and whether the family is getting help for the son.
After I read this I was in shock because I couldn't believe that a nine year old would be able to sneak through security because it is so strict these days. It is scary that this happened because if a nine year old can slip through security, what is holding back a terrorist?

This makes me question his parents. How could they not notice he was missing? Or because this has happened before, why wouldn't they have kept a sharper eye on him? This is a very interesting article
ReplyDeleteSomething must be up with his parents, for this type of thing to happen repeatedly. Obviously this kid is pretty clever- and not in a way that's beneficial. As far as the incident with security goes, I think it'd be pretty simple for a small/short child to sneak past them, as opposed to a grown person.
ReplyDeleteThis is scary. What are the parent doing wrong that is causing a 9 year old boy to do such horrible things. He didn't just learn it himself, obviously he got it from somewhere. This just goes to show how big of an influence parents have on their children. Hopefully police can find out what's up with his parents.
ReplyDeleteThis is so strange! How could the airport security be so oblivious to a nine year child sneaking in? The fact that he made it all the way onto the plane without being detected does make me question the safety of the airport.. -Nia Edwards 4th period
ReplyDeleteI believe that although it is possible that the parents have badly influenced their child, that perhaps one should consider that this child might actually have a personality or mood disorder. Nurture does not always outweigh nature. It is at least worth consideration.
