Youssef Bakr "Ocasio-Cortez says there is a ‘legitimate question’ that needs to be asked: ‘Is it okay to still have children?'"

The young star of the Democratic Party, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has come up with yet another brilliant proposal: It might be true that people should stop having children. In a casual Instagram livestream, she stated that there is, "basically, like, a scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult, and it does lead... to a legitimate question. Ya know, should- is it okay to still have children?" I am always sure to take note of the scholarship of a person who uses the word 'like' very often. She continued later: "We're actually screwed."

The absurdity of AOC's statements remind me of those made by many different political figures, especially George W. Bush, who famously said, "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test," and "Rarely is the question asked: 'Is our children learning?.'" Barack Obama has said … it is just wonderful to be back in Oregon, and over the last 15 months we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in fifty …. seven states? I think one left to go. One left to go. Alaska and Hawaii."

It is important to take note that both Bush and Obama had a slip of the tongue, while Cortez is usually serious when she says these sorts of things.

  1. I'm positive republicans currently in office, specifically the oval one, have said some absurd thing and they are usually serious when they say these things. Why don't you mention them?

  2. Even if she didn't say it eloquently enough for you, I think she brings up a valid concern. Many don't like the idea of bringing kids onto a dying planet. In addition, I don't think it's fair to judge someone's "scholarship" on how often someone says "like," nor is it fair to completely dismiss and belittle what they say because you don't like (or don't want to like), like, how they talk.
