Sam Romine - Zuckerberg Admits Facebook Collects Data from People Who Haven't Signed Up

A shocking revelation amid the 10 hours in which Zuckerberg was questioned by Congress revealed that Facebook collects data from people who aren't even members of the social media platform. Although Zuckerberg escaped the 5 hour interrogation by Congress yesterday unscathed, he was at the wrong end of some pointed questions in today's questioning. When asked by Sen. Frank Pallone for a yes or no answer on whether or not he would commit to changing the default settings of Facebook to minimize data collection, Zuckerberg gave the "disappointing" answer of maybe. Zuckerberg said that that was "a complex issue that deserves more than a one word answer." New internet regulations may be in store for Facebook after several failures to self-regulate the platform.

All of this sudden interest of Capital Hill in internet regulation was sparked by the discovery that Cambridge Analytica was illegally using the data of millions of Facebook users. It has been dubbed the Cambridge Analytica Scandal and can be compared to the Watergate; they both involve a prominent figure of society, and the effects of both of these scandals were felt throughout American society.

  1. I wonder what will happen to Facebook. I don't know if it will shut down after this, since it is such a big company.
