Following a chemical attack orchestrated by the Syrian and Russian governments in Douma that has killed over 150 civilians, President Trump has promised action on behalf of the US in reaction to the usage of Sarin, a toxic nerve agent. Russian UN representative, Mr. Nebenzia, said that claims of the chemical attacks are usage of "hawkish rhetoric" to slander Russia's name.
This event is really important to Americans today because it highlights the growing tensions between the West and Russia. The actions being taken by the two governments against each other and the rising distrust and tension greatly mirrors the Cold War; sooner than later, the countries will have to take action against each other in Syria, and citizens of the world can only hope that it does not escalate the conflict.
