Since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in September 2017, more than 3.4 billion hours of electricity have been lost there. That makes it the second-largest blackout in world history. The only blackout in world history larger than Puerto Rico's is the one that followed Typhoon Haiyan which devastated the Philippines in 2013. About 6.1 billion hours of electricity were lost after that storm. This blackout in Puerto Rico is already the worst in U.S. history, beating out Hurricane Georges (1998) and Hurricane Sandy (2012). As of right now, about 96% of the island's power has been restored, but around 100,000 to 200,000 still don't have electricity; seven months after the storm.
I can't believe it has taken so long for the power to be fully restored to Puerto Rico. It is so unfair for them to experience such an awful tragedy and not receive enough support to help them fully recover. I wonder why we haven't made it a priority to aid Puerto Rico in their recovery. I hope 100% of the power is returned to the island, and the citizens of Puerto Rico are able to return to their normal lives.

Its crazy how long its taken to get the power restored! I agree, why can't we help aid them in their recovery?
