Recently, in the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, they are clearing all the mining equipment. Many Christian groups have been pouring into the Promised Land that is called Qasr al-Yahud, or the "Castle of the Jews".  The site of the baptism is in Jericho, which is a couple miles north of the Dead Sea. 570,000 visitors went last year to that spot. Then the site became off limits once the Arab-Israeli war started. Now, they are trying to rehabilitate the site and reopen different churches and monks. The work started March 11 and is being worked on right now.

This relates to APUSH because restoring special sites is very important. This can be seen all throughout history when places have turned into museums, like the houses and women organizations.
