North Korea’s definition of ‘denuclearization’ is very different from Trump’s - Jacob

Summary: this week the president and North Korea have announced that they are going to conduct denuclearization talks. However, between the two countries, it’s very difficult to understand what the word “denuclearization ” means. To the politicians in Washington, denuclearization, means that North Korea has to take down all of its missiles, and that they will be regularly inspected, to make sure that they are upholding their side of the bargain. To North Korea, however, denuclearization means that not only will they have to give up their arms, but also the US will have to take down the nuclear umbrella they have placed over South Korea, thus making them vulnerable to any sort of invasion.

Position: there are parts of both of these definitions that work, however, both Nations must come to an agreement on whether they will both denuclearize, or if the whole world will have to go into a standstill over a potential second Cold War. I personally don’t want to have to conduct bomb drills and conduct a duck and cover, when called on. It’s a shame that were even having to talk about this, why do we have to have nuclear weapons pointed at each other in the first place?
