Manon McCollum -- Scott Pruitt's troubles have no easy remedy

Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt is in deep trouble with the American public. After taking an incredibly obvious bribe of $50 housing from a lobbyist, and spending insane amounts of taxpayer money on personal expenses, Pruitt's name has been splashed across American headlines, and public opinion of his credibility has plummeted.

However, there is little possibility, at this point in time, that Pruitt will go the way of Rex Tillerson or Michael Flynn. He is incredibly good at his job: slashing federal environmental protections and convincing the President to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. Pruitt's goal, since day one, has been to completely undermine the purpose of the EPA and sacrifice the environment to corporate interests. There is little chance that the GOP will risk such an effective anti-environment policy maker on measly corruption charges.

This scandal harkens back to the days of Theodore Roosevelt, who began the push for conservation. In reaction to growing concerns that industrial tycoons were destroying America's precious wildlife and natural resources in the name of quick cash, he placed protections on countless reserved areas. Guess that's all out the window.

  1. It's so sad that the person we trust to protect our environment would do something like this.

  2. It is funny that the most controversial cabinet members are here to stay while the less are booted. I guess as long as you suck up the the leaders ideology, you get a free pass for everything. Reminds me of the days of Andrew Jackson and his cabinet system.
