Escalating Number of Women Politicians Take Midterm Elections by Storm- Victoria Gonzalez

With the midterm elections having the fate of senators and congressman in their hands the stakes are high for publicity, reputation and voters to tip the scales of who will sit in congress next. This year, however, will be ecstatically different due to the amount of women running for office. 309 women filed for seats in the US House, 29 are running for senate and 40 for governor. In a field that is mostly made of upper class-men, this is a major feat for women. With the ability to sit in congress this gives women the opportunity to represent themselves on matters such as college campus safety, birth control and sexual harassment cases. What makes it even more interesting is that majority of the women running are those from the Democratic party, foreshadowing possible threats to Donald Trump for the next two years of his term and hindering any bills or policies he may have yet to produce. The fact is that these 309 women are shaking up the total amount of 535 members of congress-the foreshadowing of a great political standoff and progress.
