Teachers in Oklahoma are protesting against school spending cuts. They are angry over lack of school supplies and textbooks as well as a paycheck over the years which has never gone up. The teachers are going on strike until education funding is increased. Teachers in other regions of the United States are threatening to go on strike until they see raised wages.
This protest relates to the protests of African Americans during the 50s and 60s when they fought for civil and voting rights. They would march just like these school teachers are marching and they also created signs to show their views. They would walk for miles and miles and go through pain in order to fight for what they believed in.
This is a great connection to MLK and the peaceful protests that they basically popularized in America.
