'Affluenza teen' Ethan Couch released from jail years after drunk driving wreck killed 4// KLARK JOHNSON

Ethan Couch, 20, also known as "Affluenza teen", convicted of drunk driving in 2013 which killed 4 people, was just released from Tarrant County Detention Center in Fort Worth on Monday. He was serving time after violating his probation relating to the crash. He did not speak with reporters on his way out of the facility and in the car. Renee Loper, his attorney, said Couch felt "true remorse for the terrible consequences of his actions."

MADD president Colleen Sheehey-Church has said Couch's release is a "grave injustice" and also said his release will be monitored closely by the organization. Upon his release , couch serves a 9 p.m. curfew, received a GPS tracker, and alcohol monitor. Couch's actions were blamed on Affluenza back in 2013.

  1. Having a psychological sickness is real despite what some may think. However, drunk driving can never be justified. He didn't have to get drunk and then get behind the wheel. I do not believce he can blame this on Affluenza. I'm glad to see that precautions are being taken.

  2. He can say that he’s remorseful but I don’t think he is. By now he should be able to fully accept the consequences and not have to place the blame on something.

  3. I think drunk driving is one of the stupidest things someone can do. It's sad to see people who drive drunk, kill others, and survive. I think he deserves imrisonment.

  4. My question is why being too rich to understand right and wrong is a position you can argue in court for a reduced sentence while being too poor to afford a moral compass gets you at best a harsher sentence and at worst a trip to the asylum.
